Rabdomancia is the old name for radiesthesia.

Radiesthesia is the claimed paranormal or parapsychological ability to detect "radiation" within the human body. According to the theory, all human bodies give off unique or characteristic "radiations" as do all other physical bodies or objects. Such radiations are often termed an "aura". (...) This method scopes more than just the discovery of hidden water and other metals, minerals and objects. Radiesthesia or "radiesthesie" as it is known in France has been used in discovering missing persons and in making medical diagnosis and proscribing treatments. However, almost everywhere the terms dowsing and radiesthesia have became synonymous. [2] Radiesthesia has gained attention in Alternative and Holistic health fields. Many practitioners attest a number of different illnesses for which in addition to locating the areas, radiesthesia is conducted to identify the cause of the illness. It is also a common practice to measure the energy field of the subject before and after the healing sessions. Radiesthesia is regarded with much skepticism by the majority of science and medical professions and at times with a great deal of ridicule. Therefore, radiesthesia remains associated with the metaphysical arts. [3]

Rabdomancia é o nome antigo da radiestesia. Não vou traduzir os trechos anteriores por... preguiça (como sempre!), mas a Wikipedia e o grande oráculo (Google) sempre podem te ajudar!

Radiestesia é uma palavra composta por dois termos distintos: radius, que vem do latim e significa radiação, e aisthesis, de origem grega e que significa sensibilidade, indicando assim a "sensibilidade às radiações". Seus defensores afirmam possuir a capacidade de captar radiações e energias emitidas por quaisquer objetos, esta habilidade permitiria aos radiestesistas (geralmente com o auxílio de bastões, pêndulos e outros instrumentos) encontrar água e minerais, corpos enterrados, objetos perdidos, ou qual seria a melhor dieta para um determinado organismo. Já os críticos afirmam que a Radiestesia é uma pseudo-ciência sem qualquer fundamento. [4]

Por anos sempre achei que rabdomancia se limitava apenas a hidroestesia, mas parece que serve para muitas coisas. Se com um galho pequeno você é capaz de encontrar as fontes de radiação, o que essa elfa pretende encontrar logo com um tronco?
