Stock images, brushes and textures are a great help when you have to add some special effects in your pictures, websites, logo, etc. The problem is, when the stock is perfect - and paid - with a very high price that doesn't make the stock worth to use. Or when the stock is "free", but you must follow some items from licensing as "no use outside my site" or "no cropping", go for it.
Some licensing are more flexible, even allowing commercial usage for free or with a cheap and worth price.
Those are my fave stocks, and - obvious - the ones I use :)
- Sirius-Sdz: no rules (except repost or sell the textures itself - but is nice say a thx, don't you think?);
- Hawksmont: brushes and textures stock, no rules (except repost or sell the textures itself);
- Wikimedia Commons: lot's of public domain resources there. Some non-public-domain images are free for comercial and non commercial usage, using Creative Commons or GNU-GPL licencing, then better double checking;
Those are some nice resources:
- Diane's Hanagumori brushes: free brushes, credits desired;
- Brusheezy: great brushes, patterns and textures, but licensing may vary accourding to author. You can also find my brushes there.
- Stock Unrestricted: big collection of stocks! their rules are not that bad: can be used for both, personal and commercial projects; the user are not required to obtain permission to using the stock off site or in DA prints; It cannot be redistributed as stock; the only requirements are that the stock provider be notified and credited or the Stock has a Creative Commons Attribution Licence.
Remember to check the licensing twice before use ANY stock, authors can change idea very fast.
